Statistics have demonstrated that, for the majority of women, homebirth with the presence of a skilled attendant results in similar or better outcomes than hospital births. Home birth has a positive effect on the reduction of unnecessary medical intervention and the application of technology. Birth at home allows for unique conditions which ensure individualized care, facilitates the birth process, supports the health of women and their babies, contributes to family life and optimizes birth outcomes.

My name is Anna Fernandez.
I am a Mother of home birthed children, a Midwife, a Doula and an Herbalist.

I have been attending births since 1999 in a variety of places including Washington State, Michigan, Texas and now Maine. I have attended homebirths, birth center births and hospital births. I strive to be the best possible Midwife that I can. I view pregnancy and birth as a natural process but I also have the skills to prevent complications, recognize problems and act appropriately in response to them.

The roots of my practice lie with the idea that birth is a normal part of life.

One of the important aspects of my work is to be the eyes and ears of birth. It is my job to allow each woman to delve into the primal aspect of her humanness and know that I am there guarding her space, keeping a watch so that she can relax and do her work.

I believe in informed consent, educating women about their choices, the risks and benefits of each, and allowing women and their families to make the best decisions for themselves regarding their pregnancies, births and their care after the birth.
