Herbs for the Childbearing Year

Herbs can be a wonderful addition to pregnancy, birth and postpartum. As a Midwife and Doula as well as a Master Herbalist, I rely on herbs to assist women through many stages of the childbearing year. Herbs can play a nutritive role by providing mother and baby with a plethora of vitamins and minerals that are sometimes harder to get in foods. By accessing these nutritive qualities, many unpleasantries and complications of pregnancy and birth are prevented. Herbs can aid in the minor uncomfortable situations that arise during pregnancy such as morning sickness, heartburn, varicose veins, hemorrhoids etc. as well as prevent major complications such as anemia and pre-eclampsia. During birth, if necessary, I will reach for my herbal allies to assist with situations that would rather be avoided such as exhaustion and excessive bleeding. Herbs are great for postpartum. I almost always suggest an herbal sitz bath after birth to support the mother's tissues, and the baby's umbilical cord in healing.

After Pain Away*	A blend of herbs used to ease the intensity of afterpains. This can also be used to ease pain from menstrual cramps. Contains: Cramp Bark, Black Haw, Motherwort, Yarrow.
B & B*	A blend of herbs to encourage the birth process. Contains: Blue Cohosh, Black Cohosh, Scullcap and Lobelia.
